HP PAVILLION DV6000 REPORTS BATTERY NOT CHARGING
Questions:
I noticed that my laptop power stayed at 6% even though I was on power for over two hours. I checked and noticed this…plugged in, not charging. Please help
Solution:
I threw out a hp pavilion dv600 battery because it wouldnt charge, but the same problem occurred after a couple months with a new dv6000 battery.
Basically, power down the laptop and then remove the AC adapter plug. Remove the hp battery, perhaps wait a minute. Then put the battery back in and then plug in the hp pavilion dv6000 AC adapter plug. You then should see the charger light come on showing the pavilion dv6000 battery is charging. Perhaps wait a few minutes before powering on the laptop to confirm that the battery is indeed charging. The problem seems to be in the logic (not sure where, if it is the software driver, etc.) when the laptop is on, it doesn’t get a charge. But with the laptop off, plugging in a battery after it has been removed – it works with a simpler hp pavilion dv6000 charger system that doesn’t use the computers’s main CPU.
Also second , it is clear with my 6000, that the battery can discharge all the way after some time when powered down even though it had say 50% or more! This is well beyond the normal battery idle loss over time and I suspect the laptop has turned on in some way to drain the battery. So I always remove the battery after I have powered down the laptop, and I have not had any battery problems since then!
Finally, I agree with one posting I saw. The Pavillon HP laptops battery problems are truly the pits and may be enough for people to stop buying HP laptops! Where has all the engineering gone at HP?!
1) Powering down the laptop.
2) Remove dv6000 battery and power adaptor
3) Wait a few minutes.
4) Plug power back in and then plug back in pavilion dv6000 battery.
5) See if charger light (blue light in front) comes back on.
If not re-try this.
When charger light comes on, then power up laptop and check for charging.
This had to be done for me with laptop powered off.
Also, if you get it fixed and battery charged, remove battery after powered down
as it seems to discharge after not using, more than it should for being idle!

Install Windows 7 (64 bit) on HP 530 Notebook
Windows Versions
When Windows Vista became pre-release I immediately installed it because of the stories that we heard about it. We all remember that Microsoft says a lot about Windows Vista, so that we believed it will satisfy all our dreams.
But I couldn’t use it more than one month!! I realized that Windows Vista is not stable, beside that it used a lot of RAM comparing to Windows XP, so I felt that I was stupid because I believed Microsoft trivialities about Windows Vista. From that day I stuck with Windows XP and refuse even thinking about changing it!
Now a days, Windows 7 become pre-release and many people (includes IT professionals) says that Windows 7 is the best ever Windows, they always repeat that Windows 7 is the soul of Windows XP with Windows Vista style. So after I heard this story from a lot of my friends I finally decide to try Windows 7
Preparing to Install
I installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) on my HP 530 Notebook ( buy cheap hp 530 battery, compatible with hp 510 battery ), and realized a lot of people in forums tried to do that on almost the same laptop, so I deiced to add this post to be a step by step tutorial about installing Windows 7 and almost all programs you need on it.
First step is to create a new partition (if you want to install Windows 7 and keep your old Windows like me) or make sure that you don’t need any files from your old windows drive.
The question here is how much the drive should be? well I recommend that the drive should be at least 25 GB, so that you can Install Windows 7 Ultimate (or what ever version you want) and all your favorite programs on the same drive.
The last question you might ask is what about drives? should I download any? well, my notebook came with FreeDOS so I have no driver at all! and HP provides only drivers for Windows XP and Windows Vista on here website. The answer is so simple: you almost will not need to install any driver manually, so lets begin the installation process.
You are now ready to install Windows 7 so shutdown your laptop to boot from Windows 7 DVD (I tried to install Windows 7 from inside Windows XP but it didn’t work). DO NOT press the hibernate option! (like I did) if you want Windows 7 to add a multi-boot option for you, you must shutdown your computer.
Installation
When I installed Windows XP on my notebook I fell into the problem of SATA hard disks and forced to disable SATA option from BOIS to let Windows XP recognized my hard, so it remains disabled while I installed Windows 7 (I don’t believe that you will have this problem, but just in case).
Now boot from Windows 7 DVD and follow the installation steps, it is really a simple installation and you will face only 2 or 3 windows before waiting about 10 minutes to your first reboot.
After that you will enter your computer name, use account and something like that. Here you are! welcome to Windows 7 world!
You can notice from you computer properties that you have only 30 days trial, well now Windows 7 is still pre-release so I went to Microsoft site and got a key from here, so my Windows is Genuine now.
Drivers
Now open Device Manager and let’s see what we have, you will notice that Windows 7 installed driver for your Sound Device, Modem and Wireless Network Adapter. But you still have 2 yellow icons named “Ethernet Controller” and “Unknown Device”.
As you expect “Ethernet Controller” is your Network Adapter but don’t worry because Windows 7 can recognize it! All you need is right click on it and choose “Update Driver” option and tell Windows that you will install the driver manually then choose Vendor “Intel” and device that named “Intel PRO/100 Network Controller” (or what ever your network card is) and let Windows install the driver for you.
Now what about “Unknown Device”? after some search I found it, it is HP Quick Launch Buttons. You can now check that your launch buttons is working fine except that you see nothing when you use them (you are not seeing any thing when you darken or brighten your screen for example). So you need to install a driver only if you want to see something when you use your launch buttons, I found a lot of drivers for HP Quick Launch Buttons on the internet but no one works with Windows 7 (64 bit). Finally I found this one which worked perfectly.
You still have one drive that could be better, yes it is Display Driver. All you need is going to “Windows Update” from “Control Panel” and let Windows check for updates, you will see about 4 updates related to your drivers and one of them will install a Nvidia Driver for you (about 16 MB). DO NOT INSTALL the update related to the modem driver, because after I installed it I got a blue screen every time I connect to the Internet with a dial up connection until I uninstalled that update.
So you are now using Windows 7 and you manually downloaded only one driver (Even though you don’t really need it!).
Programs
I can say that I did not have any problem while installing my favorite programs and here is some of them:
Firefox
I can’t find 64 bit of Firefox even there is a version for another browser derived from it, so I installed the 32 bit of Firefox as usual and it works fine with all my favorite addons.
Java
After a lot of searching about JDK for 64 bit (not just JRE), I installed 64 bit version of JDK 1.6 from here.
You will realize after installing JDK 64 bit that it has no Java plugin for browsers, so you must download it your self and install it separately (you will need a file named jre-6u16-windows-i586-s.exe).
TortoiseSVN
I installed TortoiseSVN 64 bit from tortoisesvn.net website.
Windows Sidebar
I love Vista Windows sidebar and I had a fix to install it on my old Windows XP, so on Windows 7 I searched about it and found that Windows 7 don’t have a Sidebar that can be stuck to the right of my screen as with Windows Vista, all it has is a capability to show the gadgets on my desktop and that is not what I want. So after some search I found this fix that fixed my Windows Sidebar and let me enjoy Vista Sidebar program on my Windows 7.
That is the most important programs I used to use, and all of them is just working fine on Windows 7
Conclusion
After I used Windows 7 for about 2 weeks until now, I can tell you that Windows 7 is more stable than Windows Vista, although it uses less memory. Beside that it has a great graphics effects especially when you use Aero theme.
Now I see that I was wrong when I decided to install Windows 7 and kept Windows XP, because I can tell you that you will never boot to Windows XP if you have Windows 7 installed on you PC.

There are several steps you can take to help you get maximum performance from your toshiba pa3634u-1bas battery:
1、Prevent the Memory Effect – Keep the pa3534u-1bas battery healthy by fully charging and then fully discharging it at least once every two to three weeks. Exceptions to the rule are Li-Ion toshiba pa3534u-1bas batteries which do not suffer from the memory effect.
2、Keep the toshiba laptop Batteries Clean – It’s a good idea to clean dirty battery contacts with a cotton swab and alcohol. This helps maintain a good connection between the battery and the portable device.
3、Exercise the Battery – Do not leave the toshiba battery pa3534u-1bas dormant for long periods of time. We recommend using the battery at least once every two to three weeks. If a laptop battery has not been used for a long period of time, perform the new battery break in procedure described above.
4、Battery Storge- If you don’t plan on using the toshiba pa3534u-1bas battery (compatible with toshiba satellite a200 battery, toshiba equium a200 battery) for a month or more, store it in a clean, dry, cool place away from heat and metal objects. How to select the correct Acer Aspire 3000 AC Adpter
Selecting the correct Acer Aspire 3000 AC Adapter -
Before purchasing an acer AC Adapter you need to make sure make the Laptop AC Adapter will give you the correct voltage and suitable current output.
To find out the voltage & current, turn your laptop over and look for a label, sticker or writing which shows the voltage and current, it should look something like the examples below. The voltage figure will have a “V” after the number i.e 19V and the current will have a “A” or “mA”. i.e 3.15A. You can also find these shown on your original acer aspire 3000 AC adapter ( acer aspire 3000 charger ) if you have it. The Voltage must be within 10% of your original aspire 3000 AC Adapters Voltage. The Amps may be higher but they cannot by lower.
If you are purchasing a universal Acer Aspire 3000 AC Adapter or Aspire 3000 Car Charger you will need to work out the Watts of your original AC Adapter and select the universal Acer AC Adapter or Car Charger with the same Watts or next highest Wattage. You can work out the Wattage by multiplying the Voltage by the Amps i.e 20V X 3A = 60 Watts. There is no 60 Watt AC Adapter so you will need to select the next step up which is the 70 Watt AC Adapter.
PLEASE NOTE: If the wattage requirement for your laptop is lower than the 60W or 90W output of the adapter, it will not damage your laptop, your laptop will only take the amount of power it requires. I.E. If your laptop needs 45W, then either the 60W or 90W will work OK. If your laptop needs 80W then you will need the 90W one as the 75W one will not be powerful enough.
If in doubt please email us on our contacts page.
Once you have selected you Brand and Model from the Laptop AC Adapters Search Wizard it will display the compatible AC Adapters under the product column. Once you have clicked on the battery you will be redirected to the page displaying alllt he information about the AC Adapter. Click on the photo of the AC Adapter to enlarge the image and view the tip dimensions to ensure they are similar to your original AC Adapters tip dimensions.

Top 8 Ways to Extend Your Digital’s Battery Life
Top 8 Ways to Extend Your Digital’s Battery Life
Digitals tend to lose their charm quickly when you’re constantly looking for the nearest power outlet to charge up. How do you keep your battery going for as long as possible? Here are 15 easy ways to do so.
1. Defrag regularly – The faster your hard drive does its work – less demand Canon NB-4L Battery you are going to put on the hard drive and your battery. Make your hard drive as efficient as possible by defragging it regularly. (but not while it’s on battery of course!) Mac OSX is better built to handle fragmentation so it may not be very applicable for Apple systems.
2. Dim your screen – Most digitals come with the ability to dim your digital screen. Some even come with ways to modify CPU and cooling performance. Cut them down to the lowest level you can tolerate to squeeze out some extra battery juice.
3. Cut down on programs running in the background. Itunes, Desktop Search, etc. All these add to the CPU load and cut down battery life. Shut Canon BP-511 Battery down everything that isn’t crucial when you’re on battery.
4. Add more RAM – This will allow you to process more with the memory your laptop has, rather than relying on virtual memory. Virtual memory results in hard drive use, and is much less power efficient. Note that adding more RAM will consume more energy, so this is most applicable if you do need to run memory intensive programs which actually require heavy usage of virtual memory.
5. Run off a hard drive rather than CD/DVD – As power consuming as hard drives are, CD and DVD drives are worse. Even having one in the drive can be power consuming. They spin, taking power, even when they?re not actively being used. Wherever possible, try to run on virtual sony np-f970 battery drives using programs like Alcohol 120% rather than optical ones.
6. Get yourself a more efficient digital camera – digitals are getting more and more fujifilm np-40 battery efficient in nature to the point where some manufacturers are talking about all day long batteries. Picking up a newer more efficient laptop to replace an aging one is usually a quick fix.
7. Prevent the Memory Effect – If you’re using a very old laptop, you’ll want to prevent the ‘memory effect’ – Keep the digital camera battery healthy by fully charging and then fully discharging it at least once every two to three weeks. Exceptions to the rule are Li-Ion batteries (which most digitals have) which do not suffer from the memory effect.
8. Hibernate not standby – Although placing a digital in standby mode saves some power and you can instantly resume where you Sony NP-FM50 Battery left off, it doesn’t save anywhere as much power as the hibernate function does. Hibernating a PC will actually save your PC’s state as it is, and completely shut itself down.

Increasing Toshiba Satellite A200 battery life under Linux

Introduction
This guide with provide you with tips to increase your toshiba laptop battery life under Linux when running on a laptop computer.
Tips
Use kernel with dynamic ticks
Since kernel 2.6.21, Linux includes a feature called dynamic ticks. Without getting too technical, the kernel reduces the number of ticks initiated when the system is idle, slightly reducing the cpu usage at this time and therefore extending toshiba a200 battery life. Fedora 7 has this feature on by default.
Ensure ACPI is enabled
Not so much a problem anymore as manufacturers are more actively checking that their ACPI implementations work under Linux but you should check that ACPI support is enabled. Without it you will get terrible power management and greatly reduced battery life. You can check if ACPI is enabled and running properly by typing dmesg in the console. If it is not working a kernel or BIOS update may fix the issue, if not then look up your laptop on these pages for more details.
Use CPU power saving
Most modern processors can dynamically reduce and increase their clock speeds. A utility is needed to do this such as cpufreqd or powernowd. My personal recommendation is powernowd, it is a simple program but works very well. These two utilities are included with most Linux distributions.
Blank screen when idle
A simple tip. Set the power settings to blank the screen when idle for a few minutes. The LCD display is one of the main consumers of power and so turning it off when not needed increases toshiba satellite a200 battery life greatly.
Use PowerTOP
Intel have developed a utility called PowerTOP. It’s aim is to see which applications on your system are using processing power and thus consuming extra battery. PowerTOP is starting to be included with many Linux distributions and you can also get it from the PowerTOP website.

Toshiba Satellite A105 battery charging problem
Today I got Toshiba Satellite A105-S2712 for repair with the battery charging problem. It is a new model and we do not have a lot of experience with these laptops. The customer complained that the laptop will not charge the toshiba laptop battery when it is plugged into the AC outlet.
The laptop failure symptoms:
The laptop will not turn on when I try to start it from the toshiba saltellite a105 battery. When the laptop is turned off and plugged into the AC outlet the toshiba battery charge LED doesn’t light up. I know that the battery is not charged and the LED should light up when I plug the laptop into the AC outlet. The laptop starts fine when it is plugged. When I move the mouse over the Toshiba Power Icon in the lower right corner, the balloon will pop up and there is a line in there: Battery Remaining: N/A.
The problem repair procedure:
You can easily fix the problem just by updating the BIOS. Toshiba says that the BIOS version should be at least v1.30. So, go to Toshiba website and click on Downloads. Select your laptop model and find any downloads for the BIOS. In the BIOS change history you will see the description of changes.
After I updated the BIOS, the battery charging problem disappeared.
