In the BatteryEater Readers test (min. display brightness, energy saving mode, WLAN deactivated) we ascertained a good maximum possible battery runtime of 362 minutes.
Under load (BatteryEater Classic test, max. display brightness, highest performance, WLAN activated) this value shrunk, representing the lowest dell battery runtime to be expected, to 100 minutes.

In the practical runtime test during DVD playback (balanced mode, max. brightness, WLAN deactivated) the Latitude E6400 with the tested equipment reached about 170 minutes.

In WLAN mode by adapted brightness (level 13/15) and activated energy saving mode the notebook offers a respectable runtime of approx. 265 minutes.

How to Install Mac OS X on Dell Inspiron 1525, 1515

Step 1. Grab the iPC 10.5.6 ISO and burn it at very low speed.

Step 2. Read this guide twice or thrice before getting started.

Step 3. Put your DVD in rom and restart your computer with the DVD in Drive,now you should see Darwin load screen.

Step 4. As counting starts press F8 key and you will be able to have some more option’s.

Step 5. Now type -V and press enter now entered in VERBOSE mode here you are able to see any error if your screen freezes for more than 15 minutes than note last three lines and Google them to find out a solution for your problem. If every thing goes fine after 15-30 minutes installation screen appears hold your breath we are not quit yet here.

Step 6. On the top a menu bar appears click Utilities >> Disk Utility.

Step 7. Here select the destination drive where u want to install Mac OSX.

So is the Studio 15 better value than its siblings, or should you consider an Inspiron or XPS M1530?

Studio 15 vs XPS M1530
We specced a Studio 15 for $1457 on the Dell site (the official starting price is currently $1,149), to get it closer on paper to Dell’s XPS M1530 ( battery for dell xps m1530). We also specced an entry level XPS M1530 (Li-ion xps m1530 dell battery) for $1798.

We’re not entirely convinced the $300 step up to the XPS M1530 is a must.

Major differences are processor and graphics. On our Studio 15 we have Intel’s Core 2 Duo P8400, vs the T8300 on the XPS M1530. The P8400 has a lower clock speed at 2.26GHz chip vs 2.4GHz for the T8300, and has 3MB cache (same as the XPS). On the other hand, the P8400 is a 25watt chip, vs 35W for the T series, so in theory it’s more battery efficient.

The Studio 15 is also on the new Centrino 2 platform, and has a 1066MHz FSB, vs 800MHz for the XPs.

The other major difference is graphics. The entry level Studio 15 (studio 15 charger) gives you the choice of either Intel’s integrated graphics (4500MHD), the better choice for battery life, or 256MB Ati Mobility Radeon HD 3450. The XPS eschews integrated graphics in favour of 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT.

Both notebooks come with internal DVD combo drives, though there is a Blu-Ray option on the entry level XPS. The XPS also has an integrated mobile broadband option, which wasn’t mentioned on our Studio 15.

The Studio 15’s Centrino 2 platform and solid spec stack up well against the entry level XPS M1530. It seems the XPS’ advantages here are mostly in terms of its sleeker design, and slightly lighter weight (2.62Kg vs 2.77Kg for the Studio 15).

We also configured a top end Inspiron 1525 (Inspiron 1525 battery, inspiron 1525 ac adpater) for comparison. Our spec included Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 (same as the XPS), the same 1440×900 scren as the XPS, 3GB RAM (same as Studio 15), and 320GB HDD (same as Studio 15). Bluetooth and wireless n were add-on modules, and there was no dedicated graphics option, only Intel’s older generation X3100.

With the older Centrino platform, older graphics, and without the LED screen, our Inspiron 1525 (replacement battery for dell inspiron 1525) spec came to $1527 – actually more than the Studio 15.

In this comparison, the Studio 15 stacks up as the better buy, and it’s also solid value against the more expensive XPS. If you’re looking for a solid mid-range laptop, we recommend you place the Studio 15 on your shopping list.

This is not the first time I’ve seen wacky colors being offered on a Dell laptop. Among the seven being offered, Flamingo Pink, Tangerine Orange, Plum Purple and Spring Green were also available with the Inspiron 1525. The Studio 15 continues the same tradition but with a slight twist. You can either choose a solid color or spruce up a model in any of the seven colors with in-mold decorations (IMD), like the designs on the HP Pavilion dv5t ( battery for hp pavilion dv5t), patterns embedded beneath a glossy finish. Granted, it’s not as fancy as the aluminum trim found in the XPS M1530 ( battery for dell xps m1530 ) and the Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (battery for apple macbook pro 15-inch), but it’s to Dell’s credit that the Studio 15 combines two of the most commonly used design trends in laptops.

The Studio 15’s styling is also a tribute to the XPS M1530. You might recognize the drop-down hinges, similar to the ones on the M1530 and the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510. It even has the same tapering design as the M1530, becoming thinner as you move toward the bezel. At 5.9 pounds, it’s a shade lighter than the 6.2-pound M1530, although the Apple MacBook Pro is still the undisputed 15-inch mainstream lightweight with its 5.3-pound frame. I’m surprised that Dell didn’t offer a 13-inch Studio, as it would appeal to mobile professionals. As it stands now, the Studio line consists of the 15 and the Studio 1735 17-inch widescreen. (Stay tuned for my review of the latter.)

You won’t be disappointed with the typing experience on the Studio 15, as the keyboard, mouse buttons, and touchpad are engineered to perfection. Like the Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch, the 15’s widescreen is backed by LEDs and has a 1,440-by-900 resolution, which delivered a superb viewing experience. What the MacBook Pro doesn’t offer and the 15 does is an option to upgrade to a 1,920-by-1,200 (1080p) resolution screen.

A wide array of upgradable features makes the 15 shine. Embellishing its sleek look is a slot-loading DVD burner, which can be upgraded to a Blu-ray reader for $200. You can enhance the Blu-ray experience by using the included HDMI port to display the image on a larger monitor. With the proliferation of digital cameras and video content, you’ll be glad of the four-in-one card reader, the variety of hard-drive configurations (my review unit has a 250GB drive), and the 2-megapixel webcam, to help you stay in line with these trends. Mobile broadband or a cellular modem is a feature I’ve been pleading for on the MacBook Pro, the Gateway M-152XL, and the Toshiba Satellite A305-S6845. At least Dell offers it as an option on the 15.

Performance-wise, the 15 and the MacBook Pro 15-inch (Penryn) are worthy adversaries, with the slight edge going to the 15. With its 2.5-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2GB of RAM, its SYSmark 2007 Preview Overall score of 122 topped the Apple’s by 9 percent and is the best Overall score we’ve seen so far on a mainstream laptop. The Dell also led the pack in video encoding and Photoshop CS3 tests. The Gateway M-152XL came close to matching the 15’s SYSmark results falling within a point short of its Overall score. As for 3D gaming, the 15 has a midrange ATI graphics card, which isn’t as powerful as the ones that come with the Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch (nVidia GeForce 8600M GT) and ASUS M50Sa-A1 (ATI Radeon HD 3600). At this price point, however, be grateful that you are getting a decent gaming card. Finally, 3 hours 20 minutes doesn’t look too impressive as a dell battery score, but keep in mind that this is a 53-Wh dell studio 15 battery. You can easily get into the 5-hour range with the 9-cell dell studio 15 batteries upgrade ($79).

The Dell Studio 15 inherits many of the XPS 1530’s strengths and almost none of its weaknesses. What it really comes down to, however, is superb configuration options. The 15 outperforms many of its toughest competitors and has the potential to inflict even more damage when upgraded. The only competitor with a richer feature set and just as many upgradable options is the HP Pavilion dv5t ( battery for hp pavilion dv5t), but undercutting Dell’s current price will be a monumental task for HP.
