Samsung’s New SMX-C14 and SMX-C10
Samsung announced today the release of two new standard definition camcorders: the SMX-C14 and SMX-C10 ( to buy samsung smx-c14 battery / samsung smx-c10 battery ). Both feature the unusual, slanted-edge design seen earlier this year with the high definition HMX-R10. No pricing has been announced, but the C14 and C10 are expected to ship in July 2009.
The Samsung SMX-C14 offers 16GB of internal memory, plus an SD/SDHC card slot. The SMX-C10 has card-only recording. Both record in the H.264 compression at standard definition. Other specs include a 10x optical zoom, a 2.7-inch, 230,000-pixel LCD, and time-lapse recording at 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, or 30 seconds.
Like most of the camcorder industry, Samsung is taking a tip from Pure Digital Flip’s playbook and offering software built into the camcorder. When connected to a computer, the software facilitates simple editing and upload to YouTube. There is also a “one-touch” upload button on the body of the camcorder, a feature which has been added by several manufacturers this year, though the process of upload is rarely as simple the single press of a button.
The new SMX-C14 and SMX-C10 are designed with Samsung’s Touch of Color finish, a piano black with touches of blood-red, as seen in a selection of Samsung HDTVs this year. That, combined with the “alien eyed” shape, are sure to make for some of the most unique camcorders of the season.
